Japanese "anime/manga" subculture has spread slowly to overseas after 1970 and now become very popular among the young people all over the world.

Akihabara -well known as its abbreviation as Akiba, is a city in Tokyo and always crowded with anime fans from worldwide. Most of them enjoy cos-play, which is another famous abbreviation as costume play.


Maid-cafe appeared in Akiba.


They are not just cafe. The servers there dress up in Anime characters or as maids, and treat the customers as anime heros or masters. The customers can trip to unrealistic world temporally while they are at the maid cafe.

The menu is just like other ordinary cafe's though, they have some special services such as the maid put cream into your coffee at your table, they feed you the first bite, or they draw pictures with ketchup on your ome-rice plate.

This, a kind of weird style cafe exploded popularity not only within all over Japan but rapidly spreaded to the United States, China and South East Asia as well.




Now I wonder when it would be coming to Canada...

Outdoor Season

Hello Kamloops! Is it still spring or already summer?? It is the season we can go hiking, fishing and camping!

Did you know some of our burgers are taste great even they got colder? You can take them out to your favorite outdoor activities just like packed lunch! Try our Pork Katsu Burger, Croquettte Burger or Teriyaki Chicken Burger for your picnic! Our new Chicken Karaage -crispy fried chicken are also great to go!

Don't forget to take our iced latte or iced coffee, too. Our coffee is made of 100% organic Kootenay coffee. We are so pround of serving you BC local products! We also have a variety of  Japanese snacks to choose from like Pocky(chocolatey preztchel).

No plan to go anywhere? Then stay cool in the cafe and enjoy cake set. It is only 5 bucks including tax! A yummy fluffy green tea roll cake(or other kind of cakes) with your favorite drink. Cake set offer is only after 2pm, so perfect for your tea time.

You can also try Ramune carbonated sodas. The retro bottles are pretty unique! Can you get a marble out of the bottle??


We also have green tea ice crean and black sesame ice cream. Try something new this summer!

Shiromi Fish Burger    Crispy Japanese panko-breaded wild pacific sole with homemade tartar sauce and fresh green leaf lettuce. Shiromi means white meat. Not very greasy like battered fish.

Oyster Burger    Seafood lover's favorite! Japanese panko(bread crumbs) makes it so crispy outside and oyster is juicy and tender. Comes with fresh shredded cabbage, Japanese mayonnaise and tonkatsu sauce.

Shrimp Ebi burger    3 BIG black tiger prawns! Enjoy this gorgeous burger with Japanese style tartar sauce on top of crispy breaded prawns. Ebi means prawns or shrimps. Fresh shredded cabbage and a bit of tonkatsu sauce make it even better.

March 11th was the first anniversary since the gigantic earthquake and tsunami attacked Eastern Japan. Many people there are still being suffered in many ways - like living in temporary shelters, limited food and water, lack of warm clothes or other stuff.
This winter has been hit by the colder temperature with more snow than usual years in Japan . A lot of  houses and shelters do not have enough heating systems in such a severe circumstances.
Please think of those people once again and pray for them. There might be something we can do for them now on.

Well, daylight saving time started and St. Patrick day has been past, we are getting to feel like almost spring here in Kamloops even though we still have some snowy days.

The latest addition - Yakisoburger!

Which are you enjoying spring-like or still-winter days? Warmer weather is more than welcome though, no thanks for getting stuck at bottom of steepy slushy road.

Once again, we introduce one of our popular burgers at this time. It is our new face, Yakisoburger. The name is combined the two words, Yakisoba and burger.

This rookie came to be real from some of our regular customers idea. They like our Teriyaki burgers and yakisoba sand(wiches) and suggested us to make Yakisoba burgers. What a unique and novelty idea! Thank you, James, Richmond, Gabor and Shay from Japanese Club at TRU! Everybody likes Yakisoburger now!

Yakisoba is Japanese style fried noodle like chow mein. Enjoy the harmony with noodles and pate. The yakisoba sauce which is very similar to Pork katsu sauce and a bit of Japanese mayo work just great on it.

Our business hours have been changed lately.

The new hours are Monday-Thursday&Saturday 11:00-18:00, Friday 11:00-20:00, Sunday 12:00-17:00. We hope this could make you have dinner at JOY after your work or school.

It has been a half year since we opened JOY in August 8th, 2011. Thank you so much for your generous support all the time. We have now a special offer to the students in Kamloops, as our appreciation. Students with ID can get 25% with any purchases at JOY.

It will be good until February 14th. Yes, it is Valentine gifts from us!

One more thing to tell you. We have just created our self-produced commercial ad clip.

 
It is just a rough idea yet, it would be grateful if we hear what you think about this.

We have even more people coming to us in the last few days. It really appreciated. You make us a good place to eat and to feel cozy. We are very happy to have you as our customer. After 6 months operation, the numbers of the customers have grown and most of them come back again and again! Yay!

After the long mild days, the real winter had finally come and gone! We were very sorry for the closure for 2 days due to our illness. We are already recovered well.

We introduce our Pork Katsu Burger at this time.

What is Katsu? It is one of the most popular Western-style Japanese foods, breaded pork just like German schnitzel, but a bit different! It comes with special yummy sauce and best match with fresh shredded cabbage.
People who have tried this burger are definately addicted.

The numbers of our facebook fans have just reached (and over) 200 on the January 2nd. We had a special offer on the whole day of the 3rd to  show you our appreciation. Extended business hours in December

It's almost December! Joyful holiday season is just around the corner!

We have some exciting information to share with you at this time.

We have the competiton of Christmas trees in Sahali Mall. Each retailer makes a beautifully decorated tree and they will be given away to children in hospital soon. Our tree has some unique origami ornaments. Come and see them before they are gone!

Santa Claus is coming to the Sahali Mall! He will be there between December 10th and 23rd, 1-4pm on weekends and 4-6pm on weekdays! Take a memorable picture of your little ones with Santa!

And we have special business hours in December. We are open until 9pm on every Fridays. There are special new menu that you can taste only on Friday nights! We also open until 8pm on Mondays to Thrusdays between the 12th and 23rd of December. Don't forget we are open every Sundays, too!

Oh, there is one more thing to tell. There is a farmers market coming in the mall on Saturday the 3rd. Yes, indoor farmers market! Take time to choose some fresh veggies, home made cakes or hand made crafts in cozy warmy under the roof!

I don't feel like going out and want to stay home all day if it is possible.

walmart, small things at dollarama and toys at toysrus.
I had to drive and park, walk and shop, and drive again and... so frustrated
in icy snowy conditions.
Now I've got a better way to shop around!

Just park your car in the spacious parking lots at sahali mall and rush in
to the warmy indoor mall!
You can get anything you want at this place. No travelling around!
Get your grocery needs at safeway, household items at zellers(future site of
target!), small things at dollar giant and toys at tumbleweed toys! There
are also a carlton cards, an apple dealer, a nail salon and much more
retailers, even a post office!
After shopping, you can have a coffee break at JOY of course! Our pride of
Kootenay coffee is 100% organic made in BC. We have various kinds of tea
lattes as well. The most popular hot drink is Green tea latte. Be sure to
get warm before you hop in the car!

We are located at Sahali Mall in Kamloops, BC. Our specialities are Japanese taste hamburgers and sweets. I know hamburgers are western food. But!!
